Events

There's over a hundred events and activities currently being lined up for Freshers' Week. Making sure you know exactly what is on when can be quite a task with such a wealth of things to choose from. A little bit closer to the time this page will have a full timetable showing every event, who's running it, when and where it's taking place.

If you're tech savvy we've set up rss/xml feeds and an ical file which you'll be able to load up in your iPhone, Blackberry, HTC or pretty much any other smartphone. It might be a little barren just now, but in a few weeks time it'll be bursting.

Everyone visualises things differently, so we've made sure you can still get good old-fashioned coloured-in timetables for each day. We'll be distributing properly printed copies of it when you pick up your Freshers' Pass, so no need to print these out.

Helpers

The four student organisations who are putting on Freshers' Week all have teams of helpers who are there to help you find your way about and to tell you all about the events their organisation are running. They all have coloured t-shirts so get to know who is who and your week should go easier. The timetables above are colour coded to match.

GUSRC (Students' Representative Council) are the crew to ask about things like Freshers' Fair, Language Cafe, Student Media and all the events in the Quadrangles. Their gang-hut for the next 5 days is the GUSRC Welcome Tent which is on the grass next to the John McIntyre Building just inside the Memorial Gate.

The GUU (Glasgow University Union) helpers are the folk putting on Jaguar Skills, Edith Bowman, BADGE and Iron Stomach. Good for chat about what's going on in the Beer Bar and HIVE. Their gaff is the old-school building with the 1960s concrete extension tacked on the side at the bottom of the hill near Gibson Street.

The QMU (Queen Margaret Union) are the people behind all the events in Qudos, Lacuna & Jim's Bar. Ask them about Beat a Maxx, Freshers' Ball, Quids and Cheesy Pop. Their base is the angular 1960s concrete badboy sitting at the end of University Gardens.

pink gusa tshirt
GUSA (Glasgow University Sports Association) are unsurprisingly the team with all the chat about sports. Ask anyone in pink about joining a sports club, sports demonstrations and taster sessions, or about their jungle themed fancy dress party. Their HQ is the Stevie (Stevenson Building) on Oakfield Avenue (the one with the swimming pool).
